A booklet designed to showcase the dynamic, minimalist bodies of work created by graphic artist, Malika Favre. Spreads were planned to complement Malika Favre’s minimalistic style by exploring the techniques that her illustrations typically emphasize. The overall goal was to showcase her work in a manner that naturally supported her designs.
Concepts & Sketches
Malika Favre’s illustrations often emphasize the use of negative space. With this in mind, my strategy was to use these types of images to fill half of a spread, with typographic elements placed in empty areas. The key here was to support the artwork — not compete with it. The use of a grid was adhered to which ensured visual consistency.
Typography & Color Palette
Typographic selections were chosen to demonstrate parity with Malika Favre’s branding. Different weights of Mr Eaves San OT provide the headlines and copy, while closely emulating the typographic element seen in Favre’s logo.
Likewise, the primary color palette was selected to align with Favre’s flagship palette. The spreads in the booklet utilize black, white, and an accent color that supports the accompanying illustrations.
